SCUBA Diving Leader

Leader Training Course Program is designed for those looking to take the opportunity to conduct scuba diving trips, teach and supervise diving activities.

The IUMA Leader Program is divided into three stages, split into structured modules:

Trainee SCUBA Diving Guide (SDG) – this comprehensive course has been carefully designed to teach the skills needed for carrying out challenging tasks during underwater trips and worldwide expeditions.

Trainee SCUBA Diving Safety Supervisor (SDSS) – This program is designed to meet the needs of surface and underwater site supervisors employed in training facilities, universities, diving centres involved in training services.

Trainee SCUBA Diving Instructor/Trainer (SDIT) – Our course has been designed to give candidates the tools necessary to assist expert trainers and instructors.

The candidate should operate as Trainee to access the Senior Leader exam and get an IUMA SCUBA Diving Senior Leader Award. In this regard it is necessary to accumulate dives or months:

  • 40 days of internship as a Trainee SCUBA Diving Guide
  • 40 days of internship as a Trainee SCUBA Diving Safety Supervisor
  • 40 days of internship as a Trainee SCUBA Diving Instructor

Upon completion of the internship required for the three stages, the candidate can request us to take the Senior Leader exam and to attend an integrative course – it is an online learning package and course final examination. The SDSL course is a 100-hour online-based course, upon successful completion the candidate will receive an HSE Supervisor certificate government recognized and in accordance with European legislation.

An IUMA Senior Leader can operate as an SDG, SDSS, SDIT. The SDIT will teach Easy courses for the first two months, then if authorized by IUMA Executive he/she will be able to teach Expert, SDJL, SDP (if trained) courses, other Diving Skills.

IUMA Training Method includes online and practical sessions. As SDIT you can teach both sessions. In other words the Trainer teaches the online sessions and Instructor practical sessions. Alternatively, we enable Training Partners to operate as instructors only, delegating the theory to the ITD.
